Welcome, I’m Melanie Ann Thurlow. I created this website several months ago with the intention of starting a blog to be able to share with others the novels I am working on, and I’ve finally got around to it.

I haven’t always known that I wanted to be a writer. I was kind of lost in high school when were expected to know what we wanted to go to college for and therefore what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. It was daunting. And since princess wasn’t an occupational option, I chose Business Management. It was what my older sister whom I had forever admired had got her degree in, and so if it was good enough for her, it was good enough for me.

Until I graduated…

I was a twenty-two single mother with a bachelor’s degree and still I felt like I was wandering through the wilderness without a compass or map. What was I supposed to do now? Luckily I didn’t have to wait long before things just clicked into place. I got the idea for my series, The Order, and things just kind of took off. Not that I am getting paid at all, but my imagination took off and I finally felt like I had found this missing piece to my life.

So a quick bit about the novels within this series…

The Order is a young-adult, dystopian fiction novel that takes place in the not-so-distant future of the United States. All the countries of the world have been combined under one rule, the Order, and the people have essentially been brainwashed and herded into the cities. There are few who still have the ability to use their brains, and the main character, Skye, is one of those people. The novels follow her through her trials and adventures, relating the unthinkable with problems we face today – the struggles faced while growing up, with love and tyrannical governments and the affects these each have on individuals and families.

The first novel in the series is complete and I am just looking for beta readers to critique it for me, so if you’re interested drop me a line! The draft of my second novel in the series is also complete, however, I have been letting in marinate for the past several months before I tackle editing it. The third novel is about half-way finished. In all I think there will be a total of four books in the series.

I’m hoping within the next several months to get both the first two novels beta-read and edited and submitted to agents and publishers, though I’ve also been considering the option of self-publishing.

Options. Options. Options.

And while all that is being done (the first two books in this series being read and edited) I have been working on a new novel which is about three-quarters finished. This one is definitely more commercial than The Order series. It is a historical romance set in the 1830s English aristocracy in which a young lady has everything a girl can need, but nothing that she wants: love and a future of her own choosing. So she sets to have that one adventure, and along the way finds love.

But of course... nothing can ever be that simple in a romance novel, so there are all kinds of twists and turns when she discovers that finding love is the easy part.
